BELVILLE, NC (WWAY) -- Belville Mayor Pro Tem Charles Bost is quitting the town's Board of Commissioners.

Bost submitted his letter of resignation effective Wednesday. Mayor Mike Allen said Bost did not include the reason for his resignation. Fellow Commissioner Joe Breault says Bost quit because he did not have enough time to fulfill the requirements of the office.

"I thought Mr. Bost did a good job and tried very hard as a commissioner,” said Commissioner Joe Breault. “I have no idea why he resigned because I was on vacation when he submitted his letter but I guess we'll find out Thursday at the town meeting what his reasons were."

WWAY went to the Bost home where we were told that he didn’t want to comment on the situation. He was elected to a four-year term on the Board of Commissioners in 2011.

Town leaders say they will hold a special meeting Thursday to accept Bost's resignation and discuss how they plan to move forward.

"He's going to be missed because he's a commissioner, but also a friend,” said Mayor Mike Allen. “I'm going to hate to see him go, but sometimes we do have things in our personal life that sometimes are going to outweigh or overshadow some of the other responsibilities we have."

Bost is the second Belville town leader to resign in the last 18 months. Mayor Jack Batson quit in July 2012 as the Board of Commissioners prepared to censure him for reportedly holding discussions about merging with Leland without board approval. Allen became mayor after Batson's resignation, while Bost was named mayor pro tem.

"There were no issues on the board to my knowledge and we were working together as a team fairly adequately,” said Breault. “Mr. Bost had his own ideas of things and that was good."
